Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port

Returning hero

One of the most ‘beautiful jewels’ of Portugal’s Duoro Valley, the Quinta de Roriz estate has produced some of the world’s finest wines since 1764. However, a long period of under-investment and poor management led to the neglect of its vineyards and commercial value – that is until 2001, when new family owners, the Van Zellers and Symmingtons, took over with a restoration plan. The resurgent Quinta’s first offering would be a limited edition bottle release; we were briefed to create an identity for it.

Inspired by the Quinta’s traditional hands-on approach to port-making where the harvested grapes are trod barefoot in stone ‘lagares’, we sourced a gorgeous handmade paper for the bottle label and neck tag, overprinted with a beautifully crafted logo re-crafted from the Quinta’s original 18th-century crest. To complete the launch, we designed a presentation booklet to accompany the wine, which was also printed on the same paper. Launched at the London Wine Fair, the port received wide acclaim and all 2,000 bottles quickly sold.

Happy client

“We wanted an identity for Roriz that would reflect this prestigious port. The result is excellent. The bottle presentation is top class and the accompanying booklet, a lovely little read. All in all a fantastic job!”
